Selva means rainforest/jungle, and this wool blanket has a beautiful green color that reflects the name. Made of 100% thick merino wool, the Selva blanket provides your dog with warmth, comfort, and functionality. The wool blanket is designed to keep the dog warm without being waterproof or windproof.

The soft material ensures that the dog has good mobility and is comfortable on cold days both before, during, and after walks. One of wool's fantastic properties is that it keeps you warm even when wet. Wool is naturally antistatic and resists odors better than synthetic materials, making the wool blanket hygienic and practical to use.

Perfect fit

Selva has the same smart fit as our other Canelana blankets, with a ribbed front for easy dressing and undressing, an adjustable strap around the belly, and tightening at the neck and back. This ensures that the dog blanket fits perfectly on the dog and does not cause irritation when it moves. It is available in sizes for terriers and short-legged breeds (30, 33, 36, 40, 45 and 50 cm back length). Our blankets do not have holes for a harness, but the harness can be used on top.

Help choosing the right size wool blanket

See our own size guide in the product description tab.

You measure the dog from slightly in front of the shoulder blades to the base of the tail (the base of the tail when you hold it up). Unlike other blanket brands, the measurements provided for the Ambassador Dog Blanket cm length are from the tightening at the neck to where we consider the base of the tail to be. The blanket should lie flat and be tightened at the back, and the number of centimeters from the tightening at the neck to the end is therefore more than the cm measurement provided for the size. This means that size M (45 cm) will be the full length of the blanket approximately 55 cm.

Why buy a dog blanket in wool?

Wool warms, insulates, and breathes, and helps keep the dog's muscles warm, which prevents injuries and promotes faster recovery. Older dogs and dogs with injuries or arthritis, which often get cold more easily, will particularly benefit from a wool blanket. Wool should be the first choice on cold and damp days.

Washing and maintenance of wool blanket

How to wash and treat a dog blanket in wool?
The great advantage with wool is that it is self-cleaning and sustainable in many ways, but there are several things you should be aware of when washing and treating it.

  • We recommend shaking it and airing it outside in the fresh air for a couple of hours. Dirt usually does not penetrate into the wool fibers, but settles on the outside.

  • When washing, we recommend machine washing and a wool program at 30 degrees with a separate wool detergent.

  • Wool products are washed separately for best results.

  • Preferably do not hand wash since it can be difficult to regulate the temperature and remove the residue of soaps and dirt compared to machine washing.

  • Spinning also makes the wool fabric dry faster and provides poorer conditions for bacterial growth.

Size Guide

Our blanket sizes are given as the dog's back length in centimeters. Measure your dog,
and choose the size that has the same back length. Then you are well on your way to a blanket that fits
as it should.

1.

Start between the shoulder blades.
Let the dog stand straight and still, and find the point in the middle of the shoulder blades.

2.

Start between the shoulder blades.
Let the dog stand straight and calm, and find the point between the shoulder blades.

3.

Measure along the back. Use a soft measuring tape and let it follow the shape of the back.

What do the goals mean?

  • The size, for example M 45 cm, is the dog's back length – measured between the two points shown in the illustration.

  • On the dog coat, this corresponds to the length from the drawstring at the neck to the center of the rear hem (regular model), or to the cutout for the tail (terrier model).

  • The total length of the coat, from the neck all the way to the back, is therefore longer than the size measurement. This allows it to cover the hips and extend down over the hindquarters.

  • The drawstring at the neck should sit at the very base of the neck, slightly in front of the shoulder blades. On the regular model, the base of the tail should fall approximately at the center of the rear hem.

Dachshund sizes

Some models are also available in specific dachshund sizes. They are adapted for dachshunds and other short-legged
dogs with long backs, so that the coat fits well at the front and does not hang too low on the sides.
The back length is measured in the same way as for other dogs.

How to put on the rug

1. Pull the rug over the head.
2. Tighten appropriately at the neck.
3. Fasten the section that goes under the chest and over the back.
4. Fasten the section that goes between the front legs and adjust the elastic if necessary.
5. Standard model: tighten at the back so the rug lies down over the thighs and hindquarters. The Terrier model has no rear tightening.
6. If the rug has leg straps, lift one hind leg at a time and thread it into the strap.
The leg straps help the rug stay in place at the back.

Standard model or terrier model?

The Terrier model is a good choice for many terriers, the Danish-Swedish Farmdog, and other dogs with a high tail carriage. If you are unsure, you can observe how your dog carries its tail when out for a walk.

Standard model

Suitable for: dogs that carry their tail low or straight back.

Rear shape: the coat goes all the way to the back and covers the base of the tail, the hips, and the thighs.

Rear adjustment: yes – the back of the coat can be tightened so that it sits down over the thighs and hindquarters.

Terrier model

Suitable for: dogs that carry their tail high, and dogs that do not like having anything resting over their tail.

Shape at the back: dogs that carry their tail high, and dogs that do not like having anything resting over their tail.

Tightening at the back: no – the terrier model has no tightening at the back.
